Unpleasant Surprises
by Pam Thompson
I was a recently a single mother of two, and I found it difficult to find the time or energy to venture into the dating scene. Thus said, I turned to the internet to pass the time - and somehow wound up registering on a dating-site! I paid the fee, posted my profile and waited.
A few days later, I received notification that someone was interested. I checked out his profile and decided to contact him. He seemed very sweet and sounded like someone I would like to get to know better. We decided to go to a popular venue and have an informal dinner. I had to pick him up. Mmm. He didn’t drive. Why? I wondered…
When we met, I realised that he was almost totally blind and was almost deaf in both ears. Now please understand, I am not put off by anyone with any form of disability, but to keep it from me initially just made me angry. He had not been honest, and honesty is something I believe in! We dined out in the cold, as he avoided crowded spaces, and when we were done, he asked to me to pay half towards the bill. I would normally have not minded at all, but nowhere did we specify we would go Dutch… and for this I was not prepared. I had to dig deep into my petrol fund and dish out for my ‘dish’…
Nevertheless, I hadn’t yet formed a firm opinion of him yet – I like to be fair. This soon changed though. I pulled into his driveway and he asked me in for coffee. We ambled in, and as he fed his two HUGE dogs, he asked me to be a little quieter as his wife was asleep down the hall.
Need I say more.
